Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is associated with a significantly increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), yet traditional risk calculators often underestimate this risk because they do not account for SLE-specific factors such as disease severity, autoantibodies, organ involvement, and treatment exposure. To address this gap, we developed SLECRISK, a personalized cardiovascular risk prediction tool that integrates both conventional CVD risk factors and SLE-related variables, including disease duration and markers of disease activity. Compared with standard models, SLECRISK is substantially more sensitive, identifying over three times as many high-risk patients—particularly younger women with severe SLE who might otherwise be overlooked.
