Dr. May Choi, MD, MPH
Dr. May Choi is a rheumatologist and clinician scientist whose research is focused on biomarker discovery and validation for prediction of clinical outcomes in autoimmune rheumatic diseases, and the prevention of autoimmune disease development and disease-related complications. Her background and training include a Masters of Public Health in Epidemiology at Harvard University and a lupus fellowship at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Choi is also the Associate Director of MitogenDx Laboratory for novel autoantibody and biomarker testing for autoimmune diseases and the Associate Director of Research for the University of Calgary Lupus Centre of Excellence, which complement her research.

Dr. Marvin Fritzler, MD, PhD
Dr. Fritzler is a professor emeritus at the University of Calgary. Dr. Fritzler’s research included cell and molecular biology, with a focus on autoantibodies and other biomarkers. He is also the founder and director of MitogenDx, a laboratory that specializes the identification of novel autoantibodies and other proteomic biomarkers for autoimmune diseases.

Katherine is a graduate of the University of Calgary's Bachelor of Health sciences, majoring in Bioinformatics. She enjoys analyzing data, from traditional statistical methods to exploring how machine learning can be applied to more challenging problems.

Jen Choi
Jen is a lab volunteer who assists the lab technician with work related to conducting an inventory of the biobank and data entry. She also helps with sorting through samples, aliquoting them and updating the biobank software.

Connie Mantei has been working at U of C for 16 years supporting faculty members, adapting to their varying needs and learning new programs and techniques along the way. She has become proficient in many areas, both clinical and research oriented, and continues to grow and expand in her role in order to meet the individual needs of her faculty members.

Ashley Clarke
Ashley graduated with distinction from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2017, and a Masters of Science in Medical Science in 2023. She has years of clinical experience as a professional kinesiologist and researcher. Ashley has completed many additional education and training courses, spanning subjects including phlebotomy, preventative medicine, epidemiology and knowledge mobilization.

In her recent role as a Research Coordinator, she manages complex research activities, from ethics submissions to data organization, showcasing her exceptional skills in patient support, case management, and effective collaboration within a multidisciplinary team.

Sasha Ivanov
Sasha is a computer science researcher exploring how generative technologies can support creative workflows. Throughout his Master’s degree at the University of Calgary, Sasha developed techniques for guiding evolving AI generated designs and published research on immersive VR data visualizations.

In 2003, a group of seventeen rheumatologists from across Canada came together and acknowledged the need to unite to better treat patients with systemic sclerosis, also known as scleroderma. The group's ultimate goal was to increase the capacity to perform research in Canada by creating a multidisciplinary, cross pillar team to perform high impact scleroderma research.

CanRIO is a network of Canadian rheumatologists and researchers with expertise in the management of the rheumatic complications of cancer immunotherapy. These include the development of new rheumatic conditions which develop during or after treatment with immunotherapy, termed rheumatic immune related adverse events (Rh ir-AE) and on the management of patients with rheumatic disease who are being treated or being considered for treatment with immunotherapy.
